Lystrophis semicinctus, Amazon Tri-Colored Hognose Snake

Area: South Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay ( South America ).
Length: max. 56 cm (males) and 61 cm (females)

This inoffensive snake owes its common name to its display of colors.
The three colours are black, red and white. The young ones appears with clear rings
With becoming older the rings fanished more or less.
They use the colours typical of highly venemous species like yaras, cruceras (Bothrops) and coral snakes. The belly colour is black.
On his nose this snake has a little hog.
Upkeep: This hognose is easy to keep. The temperature is day over 27 degrees, at night 22 degrees. As substrate we use wood strings on the bottom. A small shelter will do. You can use artificial plants and a little piece of wood. A small water dish makes it complete.
Breeding: They needs a winterrest.in the months November, December and January. They mate in the spring and they lay eggs max 10.
