English name: Pearl lizard

The Pearl lizards lives together with my Greek Tortoises in my large glasshouse. They are in the glasshouse the whole year. Half of the year they sleep or rest underground. My Pearl lizards are real pearls. After the hibernation time the are scared for e few weeks but afterwards they eat almost everything out of my hand. Pearl lizards have a green basic colour with nice blue pearls on both site of the belly. The male is very dominant, you will see this in his behaviour. In October they go underground again till March next year.

Upkeep: This Pearl lizards are very easy to keep. The temperature in the glasshouse is depending on the Dutch weather. But inside you can compare this with the Mediterranean climate. When it is too cold or too warm the Pearls get hidding.

The lizards are no feedings specialists, they eat everything but specially insects.

Sometimes I feed them also dry cat food or dead baby mice.

Breeding: After a long winter of many months they come out of the ground in the end of March. They mate in the spring. The female lay more clutches of 20 eggs. It is not easy to find those eggs. Sometimes they fool you.

You can incubate the eggs in wet vermiculite. The incubation time will take from 60 days, at an average temperature of 30/31 degrees.
